Thinking About Volunteering to Coach Kids’ Mountain Biking? Here’s What You Need to Know!

If you’re passionate about mountain biking and want to give back to the community, volunteering as a coach for kids’ mountain biking is a rewarding experience. But you might be wondering: Do I need to be an expert rider to coach?

The short answer is: No! While experience on the trails is always valuable, being an expert rider isn’t a requirement to be an awesome coach. The most important skills you’ll need are the ability to connect with kids, foster a positive environment, and share your enthusiasm for biking. In fact, our program thrives when volunteers bring a variety of skill levels and perspectives.

Where Do I Start?

As a new coach, you won’t be thrown into the deep end right away. We typically begin by placing new coaches with our beginner or green group as ride-along adults or ride sweeps. This gives you the chance to learn the ropes from experienced coaches and get familiar with our program’s structure and style, all while enjoying the ride alongside the kids.

Get to Know Us Before You Apply

We know that stepping into a new role can feel a bit intimidating. That’s why we encourage all interested coaches to reach out and meet with us before applying. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, get a feel for the team, and make sure this is the right fit for you.

If you’re excited to get involved and help grow the next generation of mountain bikers, we’d love to have you join our team!
